AST/TOAssist-to-Turnover Ratio

AST/TO measures ball-control: how many assists a player creates for each turnover they commit.

Formula

AST/TO = AST / TO (rendered as ∞ when TO is 0)

Example

A guard with 18 AST and 6 TO across the season: 18 / 6 = 3.00.

Why it matters

Two players can both average 5 assists per game; the one with a 3.0 AST/TO is dramatically more valuable than the one at 1.0. Coaches lean on AST/TO when picking starting point guards.

In depth

A high AST/TO is the signature of a steady playmaker. Point guards in well-coached leagues typically post 2.0+ — two assists for every turnover. Below 1.0 means a player turns the ball over more than they set up teammates.

AST/TO is sensitive to small samples. A player with 4 assists and 0 turnovers shows up as infinite (∞) until they cough up their first one.
