BPGBlocks Per Game
BPG is total blocks divided by games played — the headline rim-protection stat for centers and forwards.
Formula
BPG = total blocks / games playedExample
A center with 24 blocks across 10 games: 24 / 10 = 2.4 BPG.
Why it matters
Blocks change shot selection long before they show up on the scoresheet. A center averaging 3 BPG also discourages dozens of attempts per game that never get logged.
In depth
Blocks measure shot-deterrence in the most visible way. Rim-protecting bigs in well-scored leagues average 1.5–3+ BPG; perimeter players rarely top 1.0. Like steals, blocks undercount the broader effect of paint presence.
