FT%Free Throw Percentage
FT% is the share of free throws made — the purest measure of unguarded shooting touch.
Formula
FT% = (FTM / FTA) × 100Example
A player with 64 made free throws on 80 attempts: 64 / 80 = 80.0%.
Why it matters
A high FT% signals a clean shooting form. It also predicts late-game lineups — coaches keep their best free-throw shooters on the floor in close finishes.
In depth
Free throws are uncontested and self-paced, which makes FT% the cleanest measure of a player’s shooting hand alone. Strong shooters live above 80%; below 60% suggests a hitch worth coaching.
FT% also matters for end-game strategy: teams will intentionally foul a 50% free-throw shooter late in close games (the "Hack-a-X" strategy).
