TS%True Shooting Percentage
TS% measures shooting efficiency across 2-pointers, 3-pointers, and free throws on a single 0–100 scale.
Formula
TS% = PTS / (2 × (FGA + 0.44 × FTA)) × 100Example
A player with 28 PTS on 18 FGA and 6 FTA: 28 / (2 × (18 + 0.44 × 6)) = 28 / 41.28 = 67.8%.
Why it matters
TS% is the single most honest measure of a scorer’s shot-by-shot efficiency. FG% can’t see the bonus points from threes or the value of drawing fouls.
In depth
True Shooting Percentage normalizes a player’s scoring so a 3-point make counts more than a 2-point make and free throws are credited fairly. It answers the question: "for every shot attempt, how many points did this player generate?"
A TS% of 60% is elite. League average across the NBA hovers near 56%. Anything below 50% from a high-volume scorer is a red flag.
