ORtgOffensive Rating

Ships Player-level ORtg — Q4 2026

Offensive Rating is points scored per 100 possessions — the standard pace-adjusted offensive efficiency metric.

Formula

Team ORtg = 100 × (team points / team possessions)

Example

A team scoring 88 points across 78 possessions: 100 × 88 / 78 = 112.8 — a strong offensive rating.

Why it matters

Pace-adjusted scoring is the only fair way to compare offensive efficiency across teams that play different styles.

In depth

ORtg normalizes for pace. Two teams that score 100 points per game can have very different efficiency: a team that runs 110 possessions has an ORtg of 91, while a team that runs 88 has an ORtg of 114. The slower team is dramatically more efficient.

At the team level, ORtg is the most-cited offensive metric. Player-level ORtg is more complex (Dean Oliver’s formula) and ships separately.
