FG%Field Goal Percentage
FG% is the share of shot attempts (2s and 3s combined) that go in — the most basic shooting efficiency metric.
Formula
FG% = (FGM / FGA) × 100Example
A player with 92 made shots on 188 attempts: 92 / 188 = 48.9%.
Why it matters
FG% is the headline shooting number — fine as a quick read, but always pair with eFG% or TS% for any player who shoots 3s.
In depth
Field Goal Percentage treats a 2-pointer and a 3-pointer the same, which under-credits perimeter scorers. eFG% fixes this by giving 3s their bonus weight, and TS% goes one step further by including free throws.
